Overview

The International Indigenous Academic Health Network represents a partnership among the faculties of medicine at five universities around the world that share a focus on advancing Indigenous health priorities in medical education, health research and health service delivery.  The network facilitates Indigenous student exchanges among the partner organizations through a peer reviewed selection process.

Students selected for the exchange program will have the opportunity to undertake a clinical and/or research elective with a focus on Indigenous health issues at one of the partner sites. Exchange students will participate in web-based orientation/training modules prior to their elective exchange.

Eligibility

Indigenous Students must be currently enrolled in a professional medical education program at one of the partner universities and have the permission of their education program to participate in the exchange.

Travel &Accomodations

Contact people will be available at each of the host institutions to assist students in coordinating travel and accommodations.  However, students bear the responsibility for making their own travel arrangements and booking accommodations as well as any costs associated with participating in the exchange.  Applicants are encouraged to apply to programs that offer travel assistance.

Selection Criteria

Participants for the exchange program will be selected by a committee with representation from the partner universities. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s academic record, references, the elective proposal as well as ability of the network to accommodate the applicant’s elective request. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision three months after the application process. All decisions of the selection committee are final.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete the Application Form and include supporting documentation as listed in the form.  Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. The mailing address for the exchange program is listed at the end of the application form.

This application is a 2 step process

The student must complete the International Indigenous Exchange Network internal application process AS WELL AS any University required application process.
